World Environment Day 2020 : Tree Planting at Kwa Mutula Market

Eco-Green Initiative (EGI) marked the World Environment Day (WED) by hosting an event at KwaMutula Market in Mbitini Location, Makueni County, Kenya.
The event involved:
- Sensitization of environmental issues to the public
- Cleaning up the town and creating public awareness on waste management while advocating for a clean environment for better health
- Planting of 100 trees distributed between Kaliini Health Centre, the Chief’s office and the Market Centre
- Encouraging members of the community to plant trees in their respective homes.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, only a few people were actively involved following the government directives and global guidelines on social distancing.
The World Environment Day which is also referred to as Eco Day, is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for raising environmental issues awareness, supporting action and advocating for changes towards conservation of the environment.
WED is the anniversary of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm in 1972 and is annually celebrated worldwide on the 5th of June since 1973. WED is hosted by a different country every year, with a new theme, which is basically a slogan usually picked through a voting process on social media.
This year’s WED was hosted in Colombia in partnership Germany. WED2020 theme is TIME FOR NATURE and is touching on Biodiversity, advocating for everyone to act #ForNature.
Let’s ALL do something for the environment! Plant a tree! Make a tree nursery! Make a vegetable nursery! Clean up a street! Clean up a compound! Make a kitchen garden! Act #ForNature!!!
This is a lovely move.
May the Almighty bless you for doing this to my village
Much obliged, and we are very honoured to have supporters like you helping us make a difference in environment protection for the benefit of the community at large. Thanks and be blessed. Act #ForNature
